Vakhtang Kantaria (Vaqo) was born in Tbilisi, Georgia. Vaqo grew up in a tasteful musical environment, because his family was an admirer of classical and rock music. His career starts with his elder brother, Temur Kantaria-Jabadari. One day their mother bought a classical guitar “Valencia” for the brothers. The brothers taught several rock-and-roll music from their father, who was one of the members of the university rock band in the early 70’s. After that they have enrolled in Evgeni Mikeladze Music College. Then the brothers, aged 13-15, made a decision to form a duet, the name of the duet was The W. Duos first appearing on stage was at Rock Club, where local Dj Achiko Benashvili listened to them, he liked their acoustic folk-rock tune very much and invited them to the late show. Alternative music Radio station "Green Wave" FM 107.4 with DJ Achiko Benashvili's show "Rock and Football" was the first public appearing of the duo. They took part in various concerts, such as the Art-Gen festival. In 2011, they participated in the top rated singing competition "Georgian Star", The W was allowed to play their own copyrighted repertoire first-time in such a huge project. During the next few years, they recorded three demo albums and two acoustic live albums, which were presented fully on the Georgian Public Broadcaster radio. The duo The W has done approximately 300 performances on various stages in different cities such as Tbilisi, Bolnisi, Rustavi, etc. In 2017, there was the last concert of The W in Rustavi. After performance the duo split due to a decision of the elder brother, Temur Kantaria-Jabadari.
Since 2017, Vakhtang Kantaria starts his solo-career and appears under the pseudonym ‘Vaqo’, which was created by combination of his name and surname. Afterwards Vaqo bought an old and vintage, east German guitar ‘Eterna de-luxe’ in the Dry Bridge market which is the most renowned flea market in Georgia. After several concerts in Tbilisi in 2017, Vaqo holding a session at Bravo Records and Betkho Audio Lab, and just a one-take, recorded a double album, called Existential Errors, where he plays all the instruments himself. The music was characterized by elements of psychedelic rock. Presenting it on the radio in 2018, such a musical Transformation came as a surprise to the listener.
In 2019, Vaqo wrote a three-hour live concert titled "Live in Tbilisi", to which he later adds additional sounds by using various instruments in his studio, 50 minutes of a material was selected from the three-hour concert, it released on YouTube in 2021.
Before realizing Live in Tbilisi, Vaqo released his digital debut singles in 2020, for instance the song "Saqanela". in a little while new single "Hello I'm a bumpkin" was released by a Japanese label. Both of the songs were aired on radio shows in different countries. Such as Ola’s kool Kitchen Show, Mark Whitby show, My Alternative show with Davit Zhorzholadze and so on.
Vaqo’s music is characterized by elements of early rock and psychedelic rock; it’s a mixture of country music and Georgian folk, his music is full of odd musical notes that attract listeners.
